This center was founded on February 20, 2013, because of the recognition by the authorities of Escuela Politécnica Nacional (EPN) and the Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (SENESCYT) regarding the importance of consolidating research in applied mathematics as a cross-cutting support for the development of other scientific and technological areas of strategic importance for the country. Thus, after several rounds of negotiation between both institutions, the creation of a Mathematical Modeling Center at the Escuela Politécnica Nacional was agreed upon, the first of its kind in the country and one of the first in the region.
