Researchers from MODEMAT participate in ICIAM 2023

14/09/2023

Pedro Merino PhD. and Juan Carlos De los Reyes PhD., researchers from the Center for Mathematical Modeling (MODEMAT), participated in the tenth International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM 2023), which took place in Tokyo, Japan.

ICIAM 2023 is a global platform that brings together researchers, academics, and professionals from various applied mathematical disciplines, providing a space to share knowledge and foster collaborations.

Pedro Merino PhD., renowned for his work in optimization and optimal control, was part of the minisymposium "Optimization in BV and Measure Spaces: Theory and Algorithms," with his research titled "Lq-quasinorm sparse optimal control problems with controls in BV functions," which focuses on exploring 'sparse' optimal control problems with Lq norms and controls in BV functions.

Meanwhile, Juan Carlos De Los Reyes PhD. presented his research, "Data-driven parameter optimization for some inverse problems with sparsity-based priors," in the minisymposium "Recent advances in deep learning-based inverse and imaging problems." This research highlights the importance of bilevel learning in parameter optimization for inverse problems, contributing to applications in imaging technology and medical diagnosis.

These congresses, held every four years, provide an opportunity for the global community of applied mathematics to come together, collaborate, and define future directions in the field.

The active participation of Pedro Merino PhD and Juan Carlos De Los Reyes PhD. in this event demonstrates the ongoing commitment of the Escuela Politécnica Nacional EPN to research excellence and the pursuit of creative solutions to real-world problems.
